The nearby market towns of Rostrenen and Carhaix offer a variety of restaurants, specialist shops, wine caves and galleries, weekly local markets, excellent creperies and cafe bars for morning coffees and lunches. Pont Auffret is in an area listed for its outstanding natural beauty and is central for visiting the beautiful Brittany countryside and coastal areas. It is also on route for all major towns and tourist spots..

A gentle walk or short bike ride down the canal is ideal for visiting local villages or to admire the beautiful countryside. Follow the D790 by car to Quimper or Concarneau and the West coast or drive inland to St Brieuc for popular cultural events and festivals. Alternatively, follow the route leading to the emerald coastlines & shores including Dinan and Mont Saint Michelle.
La Maison du Canal is close to the lake at Glomel where watersports such as canoeing and windsurfing are available ... there is even a small beach. Watersports are also available at the larger Lac de Guerledan, which also has a beautiful beach.
Many people visit Rostrenen especially for the wide range of outdoor activities such as cycling, walking, fishing pony trekking, canoeing and sailing, all within easy reach of La Maison du Canal. There are many miles of beautiful countryside
to explore whether by car, on foot, by bike, on horseback, or even by canoe.

The Stones of Carnec are within easy reach of La Maison du Canal. World-famous for the long rows of
standing stones stretching over a mile, the relics have gained great respect over the 20th century and are now
under State protection.
The area also plays host to a variety of music events and festivals throughout the year. July sees Rostrenen's
local music festival, a must see for those who enjoy outdoor live music.
