Brittany is one of the most famous touristic regions in France offering a wealth of culture , charm and warm hospitality.
These handy, spiral-bound guides provides an invaluable reference source for both long-distance walkers and cyclists, and those who simply enjoy ambling
by water. It covers the full 365km towpath route across Brittany. A full introduction traces the history of the canal from its origins in Napoleonic
times and construction early in the 19th century, through a brief economic heyday and tragic decline, to todays role as an outstanding leisure resource.
The main part of the book gives a section by section analysis of the canal, indicating the towpath route, locks, road junctions and towns and villages on
the way. Useful and interesting information about the canal and all its attributes is interspersed throughout the text. Practicalities to assist visitors
in planning their trip include details of accommodation (hotels, B&Bs, hostels, camping, etc.) and sources of refreshments and provisions close to the canal,
as well as details of places of interest to visit in the vicinity.

FISHING THE CANALS
 |
|
River fishing in Brittany is very good with catches of Pike , Rudd ,Zander , and Perch . The absence of motorized craft make this section of the Nantes
Brest Canal an attraction for this sport with many zander over 6 kilos caught from the locks of the canal last season. The River Blavet joins the Canal at Lac Guerledan, a short distance away where you can fish for salmon, bream, carp, roach and perch.
Licenses are priced at around 80 Euros a year in the whole of Brittany. 28 Euros for a two week holiday license and approx 10 Euros for a day license. These licenses cover you to fish for white fish , Bream, Rudd, Chub, Carp etc. and game fish ,Pike, Sander or Pike-Perch, Perch, Trout).
Salmon fishing needs an additional stamp for around 15 Euros. You are allowed to fish with up to four rods from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour
after sunset. Certain stretches of rivers and some lakes allow night fishing for Carp. The Nantes Brest Canal can be fished all year round
for white fish and May to January for game fish.
